In 1992, Jay Leno edged David Letterman to become the show’s replacement. Since 1987, he has served as a reinforcement for the veteran on the program. Leno held this position until 2009.

Jay was accused of violating the Writers Guild of America’s regulations in 2009 by writing his monologue for the program. Nevertheless, after several preliminary hearings in 2009, the television personality was acquitted.
