Charlbi Dean, Cannes Film Festival's Breakout Star 2024, Passes Away At Age 32

Charlbi Dean, the South African actress and model who starred in "Triangle of Sadness," which received the top award at this year's Cannes Film Festival, has passed away at the age of 32.

Monday at a New York hospital, Dean died of a sudden and unexpected illness, her reps revealed Tuesday.

Dean also has a recurring role as the assassin Syonide on the CW's 2018-2021 adaptation of the DC Comics book "Black Lightning."

She was born and reared in Cape Town, where her name is Charlbi Dean Kriek.

Dean began modelling as a kid, and in the decades that followed, he appeared often on fashion runways and magazine covers.

In 2009, she escaped a near-fatal vehicle accident.

Charlbi Dean, photographed at the Cannes Film Festival, died unexpectedly following an illness, according to representatives.
