Why Wynonna Earp’s Katherine Barrell is so excited for Clexa Con

Look out Las Vegas because things are about to get WayHaught come March! Wynonna Earp actresses Dominique Provost-Chalkley and Katherine Barrell, along with showrunner Emily Andras, will be a few of the featured guests at Clexa Con, a media and entertainment convention for LGBTQ women, that will be held March 3-5, 2017 in Las Vegas. The convention aims to bring together LGBTQ fans and content creators from around the world, to network and empower creators and fans alike to work towards more positive LGBTQ content and representation in stories and on screen.
“It takes a lot of work, faith and time to put these things together and believe in it enough to make it happen. So I felt like I have to support things like that and people who are trying to do cool things like that,” Barrell tells The TV Junkies about why she chose to attend. Clexa Con was created and organized by a group of LGBTQ women looking to build community, improve visibility, and increase opportunities in the media. It’s a group that impressed Barrell right from the start because “the women who are running it are trying to create something from nothing, to give hundreds of other people an amazing experience. How could I not support that?”
Getting to meet other women with similar interests as herself was also a huge draw for Barrell who says she “just loved the idea behind having a female-centric summit.” The networking opportunities and chances to hear panels and speakers who care about the same things she does was also a huge draw. “It’s all these ideas that I’m so jazzed about in my office at home, so the fact that there are a whole bunch of other women that care about those things too, and want to get together and talk about them, it’s something I could never say no to,” she tells us.

Even with all her excitement about the convention, Barrell admits that she is looking forward to the event even more now that Provost-Chalkley and Andras have joined. The three women will be participating in a panel called “The WayHaught Women of Wynonna Earp,” which will focus on how Wynonna Earp and the WayHaught relationship between Waverly and Officer Nicole Haught came to pass. “I had a feeling from the beginning and was hoping that they would go. I am definitely happy that they are going to be there too,” Barrell enthuses about her costar and showrunner.
The convention will also provide Barrell with the opportunity to meet many WayHaught fans face to face for the first time. “I am really excited to meet everyone and put some faces to the names,” she says. Barrell sees it as an especially important opportunity because “I get such beautiful letters from fans saying that Wynonna has affected their lives so positively. To then put a person to that message will be really special.”

Yes, very excited to be attending & working on a very special never-before-seen cosplay for this panel.
I’m thrilled to be one of the photographers at ClexaCon. I’ve worked with Eden Riegel & Liz Hendrickson at many events, but I’m looking forward to meeting everyone else.
reminds me of the 60 and the movement for women’s rights. i was born 1959. i seen so many changes. i am glad for my dad deciding that when i was 12 to teach me all he know about life so i would not be owing to a man for a life. only wish he done it sooner, before mom moved us out. but took what i could get.love stong women. i glad i seen this in my lifetime again. we all are people with the need for love and give love.
