While she’s certainly proved on screen that she can do just about anything asked of her, Melanie Scrofano will be jumping behind the camera to show off her directorial skills in Season 4. The Wynonna Earp star posted a video on her social media channels on Monday announcing the news about the SYFY/CTV Sci-Fi series upcoming season, slated to air in 2020. This will be the first full-length episode of Wynonna Earp that Scrofano will direct, after previously directing a scene in Season 3’s season premiere.
Directing that scene was part of Scrofano’s shadowing of director Paolo Barzman. She worked with Barzman on prep for the first two episodes of Season 3, and he then surprised her by telling her to actually direct the scene. Scrofano recalled that moment for The TV Junkies, saying “he told me, ‘honestly Melanie, the prep is the easy part. To direct you need to direct, so hot potato here you go!'” Scrofano had previously said after directing that scene that she wanted to do more in the future, and it seems as though she made good on those intentions.
After Scrofano announced her directing news, it didn’t take long for Wynonna Earp showrunner Emily Andras to confirm it. She tweeted support of her star on her venture behind the camera. Production on Season 4 of Wynonna Earp is set to start in January 2020 in Calgary.
