You fought for it, and the time has finally come, Earpers. Season 4 of Wynonna Earp is not only a reality, but it’ll soon be airing on SYFY and CTV Sci-Fi. The Season 4 premiere will be on Sunday, July 26 at 10/9c on SYFY and CTV Sci-Fi, with the first 6 episodes culminating in a mid-season finale on Sunday, August 30. Production on the last 6 episodes is then expected to resume in Calgary later this summer. Fans got their first real look at what’s to come in Season 4 when the trailer debuted on Friday afternoon. At only 100 seconds in length, the trailer featured all kinds of new footage for dedicated fans to start pouring over and theorizing about.
It’s been almost two years since fans were able to catch up with Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) and her gang. The trailer features a lot of footage of Scrofano’s Wynonna fighting alongside, and for, other returning Ghost River Triangle residents, including Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley), Nicole (Kat Barrell), and Doc (Tim Rozon). The huge fight at hand will be figuring out how to get Waverly and Doc out of the mysterious Garden of Eden that they entered at the end of last season, after Waverly found out she was part angel. It’s a fight that’s even harder now that Wynonna no longer has Peacemaker and the Earp curse is broken.
But enough summarizing, let’s dive into the trailer and start dissecting it for new clues about what’s to come in Season 4!
Wynonna is feeling pretty low
“My celestial sister. My vampire baby daddy. My hot cop. Without them. Without the gun. I’m nothing,” Wynonna says at the beginning of the trailer. And while it’s certainly understandable that Wynonna would be feeling a bit hopeless, everyone in the town except for Nedley (Greg Lawson) is missing and Waverly and Doc are trapped, no Earper would agree with the sentiments that Wynonna is nothing. We’re hoping she snaps out of it soon enough and gets onto fighting!
The Earp sisters need each other more than ever
Wynonna really is going to need to be ready to fight because if we didn’t already worry about the Earp sisters being separated from each other, the trailer makes it abundantly clear that both of them are in serious trouble at different points this season. The trailer cuts right to the heart of every single Earper as both Wynonna and Waverly cry out for one another with blood-curdling screams. Will they be able to save each other in time?
A first look at new characters
The trailer offers fans a first look at Wynonna Earp newcomer Martina Ortiz-Luis. Ortiz-Luis was previously announced to be playing a character named Rachel this season. The trailer doesn’t offer up much about who Rachel may be or why she’s on the show, but we do see her fighting right alongside Wynonna and Nicole multiple times. What will this new character bring to the show and who exactly is she?
Wynonna is kicked out of the Garden?
We know at the end of last season that Doc followed Waverly into the Garden of Eden and then they both disappeared. Wynonna has now made it her quest to get them back, but there’s a moment in the trailer where it looks like Doc and Waverly may not be so excited to see her. In fact, it almost looks as if they are throwing her out of somewhere, possibly out of the Garden and back through the gates? What could that be about?
Hope yet for Wynonna and Doc?
Things with Wynonna and Doc have never, ever been easy. Theirs is a very complicated relationship and Wynonna might never forgive Doc for turning into a vampire. However, could Doc following Waverly into the Garden bring about a change of heart in the Earp heir? In the trailer she tells Doc it’s “so good to be home” and the two look very close on more than one occasion. Might Alice’s parents reconcile after all this year?
Nicoleisn’t so happy to see Wynonna
Despite Wynonna being thrilled and relieved to see her sister’s girlfriend, and Purgatory sheriff, Nicole, the feelings don’t seem to be reciprocated. Nicole was among the many in town missing at the end of last season, so it’s unclear where she may have been or how Wynonna’s reunion with her comes about, but Nicole punching Wynonna makes it abundantly clear she’s not the least bit happy to see her girlfriend’s sister. Will these two manage to work out their differences in order to get Waverly back?
Nobody f*cks with this family
Echoing the sentiments that showrunner Emily Andras tweeted that started the Fight For Wynonna, which saved the show when Season 4 production was stalled, Randy Nedley isn’t messing around. He has grown to love his little found family and he’ll be damned if anyone is going to be hurting them! We don’t know about you, but even though Nedley seems like a cuddly papa bear in many ways, we don’t need just that pitchfork to let us know he means business here!
Vacation is over
Sure it’s summertime and we’re all getting ready to relax and have a drink or two by the pool, but as Doc reminds us, vacation is over. He is ready and fully prepared to fight, as are all the Wynonna Earp characters in the trailer. The hiatus between Seasons 3 and 4 was exceptionally long, but Doc and the trailer let Earpers know to get ready because they are back!
For anyone worried about what Waverly being in the Garden means for the fate of WayHaught, the trailer gives a few signs that all may be OK. We see Waverly back in her bedroom, mad as hell, and ready to fight with her girlfriend Nicole just taking it all in and thinking her girlfriend is the cutest around. “God, I missed you, Waverly Earp,” she tells her. Us too, Nicole. Us too.
Is Jeremy MiB?
While the Season 3 trailer showed Jeremy (Varun Saranga) with a full grown mustache, he surprises viewers here by showing up supremely well-dressed in a suit. Is Jeremy the newest member of the Men in Black? Perhaps he’s the next Bond? We’ll have to wait and see to try and figure out what has our favorite little nerd looking so sharp and suave.
Mercedes is back!
Honestly, we can’t believe it’s taken us this long to discuss Mercedes’ appearance in the trailer. It’s very, very brief, and lasts less than 2 seconds, but that’s all fans need to know that Dani Fucking Kind is back and looking better and hotter than ever as Mercedes Gardner. What is she up to? Why is she dressed in leather? We don’t know, but frankly we don’t care! We just know she’s back and will continue to keep things in Purgatory extra spicy!
Are we a demon-free zone once and for all?
With the Earp curse officially broken in Season 3, many have wondered what that means for Wynonna and gang as far as battles, assuming of course they get Waverly and Doc out of the Garden. The trailer shows that there are still demons haunting the Ghost River Triangle, but that Wynonna is going to make it her mission to get rid of them once and for all. Can she be successful without Peacemaker?
Doc and Jeremy are fighting?
We all know Jeremy has the biggest crush on Doc Holliday, and Doc has always looked kindly on the team’s resident science nerd. So why does it look like Doc is punching Jeremy for a split second in the trailer? The punch happens so fast that it isn’t clear at all what brought on the punch, but it is safe to say we’re feeling a little bit worried for Jere-Bear.
Haught’s got a gun
Thankfully for Waverly, and fans, it looks like that Wynonna will have Waverly’s girlfriend right alongside her for much of the fight. The trailer offers several glimpses of Barrell’s Nicole Haught being completely badass and ready to fight, shotgun locked and loaded in hand. If past seasons have taught us anything, it’s that Nicole knows exactly what she’s doing with a shotgun and we wouldn’t want to be the one standing in her way.
Waverly is really trapped?
As an extra attempt to really go for our hearts, the Wynonna trailer is bookended with Earp sister screams. We mentioned earlier how they need each other now more than ever before, and that especially seems to be the case when we see Waverly being restrained in chains and yelling for Wynonna. It looks like it’ll take everything Wynonna has to save her sister, and that she’ll need to really Fight like an Earper, but we’re hoping she rescues Waverly soon because hearing Baby Girl yell like that is like a knife straight to our hearts.
Regardless of whether or not any of these takeaways about Season 4 pan out or are correct, we do know that after watch the trailer, any Earper will agree with Wynonna:
Wynonna Earp Season 4 will premiere Sunday, July 26 at 10/9c on SYFY and CTV Sci-Fi.
