The long wait for Wynonna Earp Season 2 is almost over, and if you’re anything like us here at The TV Junkies, Friday, June 9 can’t come soon enough! That’s when the supernatural thriller following Wyatt Earp’s great great granddaughter (Melanie Scrofano) returns to both Syfy and Space Channel. Just when we thought that we couldn’t get any more excited for Season 2, the show went and dropped some new footage that left us giddy with anticipation, but also with a lot more questions about what’s to come.
Showrunner Emily Andras made sure to leave fans with quite a few cliffhangers when Season 1 closed out last summer. For starters, Wynonna was forced to take down her sister Willa (Natalie Krill). Then her younger sister Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) dealt with the crushing news that she may not be an Earp, right before reaching down and touching some mysterious black goo. Whatever that goo may have been, it doesn’t look good as the screen went to black just as she pointed a gun on Wynonna and Doc Holliday (Tim Rozon). Meanwhile, Dolls (Shamier Anderson) was hauled off to nowhere good by his Black Badge Division boss Agent Lucado (Kate Drummond).
Of course getting answers to our many questions and seeing how some of those cliffhangers play out in Season 2 is high on our list of things we can’t wait to see come June 9. However, we’ve also put together a small wishlist of items (big and small!) that we’d love to see come to pass. Check those out below and since we’ve undoubtedly left off a few of your wishes and hopes, be sure to sound off in the comments and let us know what you want to see most of all come Season 2!
The Truth About Waverly’s Father
So this one falls into the “questions we want answered” category as well, but one of the biggest shocks in Season 1’s finale was Bobo’s comment that Waverly isn’t an Earp. Of course, when it comes to this shocker we do have to consider the source. Was Bobo just being cruel or was he actually telling the truth? That all remains to be seen but we can’t wait to get to the bottom of this mystery, especially since the ramifications of Waverly not actually being an Earp could be huge!
Meet Mama Earp
While we have heard a lot about and seen glimpses of Ward Earp, we’d really love to meet Wynonna and Waverly’s mother in Season 2. She’d obviously have some insight about Waverly’s father and it’d just be very interesting to see the woman responsible for these two women. While meeting older sister Willa was quite the experience, something tells us she’d barely hold a candle to Mama Earp!
We know the Wynonna Earp cast has talent and we’d love to see them show off their singing skills at a karaoke night. Come on, just think of the fun songs each of them would pick and the funny duets that could come out of this! I’m already envisioning a Doc and Waverly duet and now I want nothing more than to see this happen! Who knows, karaoke night could even take place at Pussy Willows?
Doc Holliday may be an ageless wonder, but there’s a downside to go along with that. We saw in Season 1 that Doc got confused and agitated at times when having to deal with modern technology and we’re hoping to get more of those struggles come Season 2. Tim Rozon plays the many faces of Doc so well, but he seems to especially shine when Doc is in that “fish out of water” territory.
A worthy “Big Bad”
How do you live up to Bobo Del Rey? Not many can that’s for sure, and there’s going to be a big fur coat sized hole that Emily Andras and her writers will have to try to fill in Season 2. There’s nothing better than a really fun and delicious Big Bad for our protagonist to face off against and Bobo Del Rey sure fit the bill. Whoever or whatever Wynonna has to face off against in Season 2 has an uphill battle when it comes to matching Bobo and we can’t wait to see what the writers throw our way.
Lots of Earp Sister Moments
Anyone who watched Season 1 knows that the true romance on Wynonna Earp is the sisterly relationship between Wynonna and Waverly. Personally, we’ll never get enough of those scenes, as Melanie Scrofano and Dominique Provost-Chalkley are so good together. That’s why we’ll gladly take any and all sisterly moments the writers are willing to give us!
Information on Dolls’ “Lizard” status
We kind of love that Emily Andras didn’t feel the need to answer all of Season 1’s mysteries and was confident enough to leave some threads dangling. A huge question mark that we’d love more information on is what exactly is up with Dolls? We saw him “lizard out” in Season 1 after taking drugs that caused his eyes to go “reptilian,” but there’s still so much about him that we don’t know. Being hauled off by Lucado can’t be helpful and we really hope we get to see more of what’s truly going on with Xavier this year.
Dolls’ softer side
When not going all crazy and “lizard”-ing out on us, Dolls was starting to really soften up as Season 1 wore on. Sure, most of the time he was still all business and very stern, but we’re really hoping to see more moments like the one he shared with Waverly while she was worried about Willa’s return. Plus, Shamier Anderson has a really, really nice smile and it’d be great to see him use it a little more often around Purgatory.
Doc and Dolls bromance
The ladies of Wynonna Earp rightfully get a lot of praise, but the men are pretty great in their own right. Although Doc and Dolls spent most of Season 1 butting heads, they started to come around and develop a bit of a friendship — OK maybe that’s still too strong of a word — or rather an understanding when it came to working together. The boys make a pretty good team and we’d love to see more Rozon and Anderson together on screen.
Delve deeper into Peacemaker’s lore
We learned in Season 1 that Peacemaker isn’t your typical gun — it’s not even your typical mystical gun. We saw that it not only seems to be aware, but it may have a way of determining intent and who the rightful heir is, as evident when it picked Wynonna over Willa in the finale. Also, what was with it glowing blue and making a different sound at the end instead of the normal yellow color with satanic runes on the barrel? Delving deeper into Peacemaker and what makes it tick is something of very high interest for us in Season 2.
Wynonna and Nicole Bonding
Now that Wynonna is finally, yes finally, aware of Waverly and Nicole’s relationship we hope that means more moments like the one we saw in Episode 7 between Wynonna and the Purgatory police officer. In general, it’ll be nice to see Nicole’s story explored and learn more about her in Season 2, and a key component of that is having her interact with people other than Waverly. Melanie Scrofano and Katherine Barrell were so good together in that scene in Season 1 that we can’t wait to see what they bring to the table this year as Wynonna adjusts to the idea that Haught is dating her younger sister.
Doc Holliday’s smooth delivery
One of Wynonna Earp’s sexiest Season 1 moments hands down was Doc Holliday standing on the porch telling Wynonna that she “would be very pretty in blue.” We welcome any opportunity for Tim Rozon to make us swoon with his super sexy delivery of lines like that this season.
A Stone Witch Update
When we last saw the Stone Witch (Rayisa Kondracki), Wynonna and Doc had left her up to her ears in a salt flat. In genre TV we know that the fact she’s not dead means we’ll see her again at some point. Will that be in Season 2? We’re not so sure, but we’d at least love an update on how good ol’ Constance Clootie is fairing out there all alone in the salt flats!
Meet Officer Haught’s cat
Remember that brief mention of Nicole’s cat in Episode 8? You know, the one that doesn’t like men. Well wouldn’t it be fun to meet that cat and find out some more about it? We sure think so!
Showcase Moments for Melanie Scrofano
The one thing Wynonna nailed out of the gate was casting Scrofano as Wynonna. She’s an actress with a full range who can do anything that the writers ask of her — many times conveying exactly what Wynonna is feeling with just her facial expressions. One episode in particular during Season 1 that stood out was Episode 8 in which Scrofano had a showcase to really show off her dramatic range. She more than stepped up to the plate and we hope Season 2 delivers a few moments like that where its leading lady is given the opportunity to really show off.
