Now that the Fight has been won, the work must begin. For fans of Wynonna Earp, that’s music to their ears. After spending months in the #FightForWynonna, Earpers finally got to hear members of the Wynonna Earp cast, as well as showrunner Emily Andras, speak to how things are going now that work on Season 4 is back underway when they appeared at New York Comic Con on Saturday. Stars Melanie Scrofano, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, and Katherine Barrell joined Andras on several panels Saturday, including one in the large Hammerstein Ballroom, as well as speaking to SYFY Wire.
Andras said the Fight was “beyond my wildest dreams,” and joked to fans that she’s “so happy you guys remember who we are.” She went on to say that “there’s no question, we owe Season 4 to you.” She was of course, referring to the #FightForWynonna by fans around the world, who helped bring about a #Win4Wynonna that put an end to the delay in production. Provost-Chalkley spoke for all fans saying she was “relieved” when she heard about production on Season 4 resuming, while Andras added that she felt “triumphant.”
Fans should also be glad to hear that Andras said “we’re actually making it” and that she “knows some things.” Provost-Chalkley confirmed “it’s a very exciting time for us all,” and that “Em told us some things on the way over and it was like woooo!” Andras then went into further detail saying that she and her writers are “five episodes in and breaking Episode 6. So we’re really rounding the midpoint of just when you thought things couldn’t get any crazier, they crazy!”
For Andras, she’s particularly excited for not only her cast, but also the fans that fought so hard to get the show to this point. “I know how hard you fought,” she told the crowd, “for the people on this stage, and Tim [Rozon], and all the regulars.” She then went on to confirm that the show is striving to “just give you a ton of these guys doing amazing things. Loving each other. Hopefully reuniting. I can’t really say.” She then added that she’s very excited because she “forgot how crazy this show is.”
While Andras remained largely tight-lipped about just what all that craziness would entail, that didn’t stop the cast from chiming in about what they’d love to see for their characters. Scrofano said that she “would like to look for my sister,” as when we last saw Wynonna, she had just lost her sister Waverly to the myseterious Garden. Of course, Scrofano then quickly joked that she “could have some affairs on the way” as well. For Barrell, she said she “still always want to see the dark side of Nicole.” When that got a tepid response from fans about one of the show’s favorite characters, Barrell joked “I know, an unpopular answer.”
Provost-Chalkley also added that she’d like Waverly to “connect with Doc a bit.” Andras was quick to point out that “you’re stuck somewhere together right now so that could happen.” Elsewhere, Scrofano lamented about not getting to “hang out with Robin (Justin Kelly) as much as you guys did,” while Barrell said she’d love “to see some Nicole and Mercedes (Dani Kind) action. I think that’d be a really fun combo.”
What actually happens in Season 4 is still largely a mystery, but production is slated to resume in Calgary in early 2020, with the show airing later in the year on both SYFY and CTV Sci-Fi. Until then, Earpers everywhere can continue to revel in the fact that they were responsible for the return of the series and get ready for another crazy season in Purgatory!
