Wynonna Earp: Our Hopes for Season 2
|
We’ve almost made it Earpers! The long, long, LONG wait for Season 2 of Wynonna Earp is almost over! We don’t know about you all, but here at The TV Junkies we’ve just been sitting back, twiddling our thumbs, waiting to get back on board that bus to Purgatory as fast as we can! In short, June 9 at 10 p.m. ET on Syfy and Space Channel cannot come soon enough!
Yes, we’ve pretty much been on the edge of our seats since Wynonna (Melanie Scrofano) had to take out older sister Willa (Natalie Krill) and then Waverly (Dominique Provost-Chalkley) reached down and touched that mysterious black goo. Will she be evil now? How is the team going to go about getting Dolls (Shamier Anderson) out of that black ops prison Black Badge was hauling him off to? Can Doc (Tim Rozon) keep his hat safe all season? These are all burning questions we need to know the answer to come Season 2.
Before we do that though, we thought it’d be fun to gather some of our thoughts about other things we’re hoping to see from Season 2. Several members of our TV Junkies team got together to discuss the show and share their thoughts prior to Season 2. Check out what we’re looking forward to, who we want to see more of and what we want for our favorite Purgatory couple!
Cliffhanger you most want to see answered
Victoria Nelli: Waverly has dark eyes and I do not like it one bit. (That was a lie, I love the drama, Emily please give me ALL of the drama and suspense.) I don’t want to know what’s going on with Waves, I NEED to know. Just really hoping she’s OK and not all dark and twisty forever!
Kelly Townsend: So many to choose from, but what sticks out in my mind has to be that mysterious goo. What is it? What does it do? Is Waverly evil now? I have to know!
Megan Haas: What in the world happened at the end of the final episode? Waverly touched some goo and then Wynonna shot her sister? What is she? What happened to Doc and Wynonna? I need answers.
Bridget Liszewski: Whether Waverly is now evil or what’s up with Dolls and his lizard eyes, yes, these are all big cliffhangers. However, Emily Andras really threw a gut punch when she made Waverly (and us!) question whether or not she’s an Earp. That’s the one I’m most looking forward to getting some answers on this season.

What Has Us Most Excited
Kelly Townsend: Wynonna Earp has always strongly reminded me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and, as much as I loved Buffy‘s first season, the show really came into its own in Season 2. My hope is that history repeats itself here and Wynonna goes from a fun show with heart to an emotional roller coaster that blows us all away. Also more Dolls though.
Megan Haas: All of the WayHaught goodiness — and everything else that makes the series so great, but mostly how the newness of WayHaught survives Waverly’s recent demonic possession. I feel like that might complicate things just a little.
Victoria Nelli: Being able to watch the show at the same time as other Earpers! I missed out on the WE train last time (I know, I know, I’m the worst!) and watching it later on, was wonderful BUT I really am so excited to watch it in real time and tweet along with the cast and fans! Oh, and that slow-mo walk with Wynonna and Waves from the trailer, give me that now, please!
Bridget Liszewski: I’m just really excited that this show is going to be back. It was such a hard fought renewal to get and I just can’t wait to see where Emily Andras, Melanie Scrofano and the rest of the writers and this amazing cast take us this season. I know that seems like I’m taking the easy way out to this question, but it’s the truth. I’m just thrilled to have the show back on my screen.

Season 2 hopes for Wayhaught
Megan Haas: That they run away and live happily ever after and just stare at each other until they die together at age 115. Really though, that they explore who they are a bit more and understand how they operate together, aside from the supernatural nonsense happening around them.
Victoria Nelli: More adorableness, more kickass acting from Dom and Kat, and more bullet proof vests! Honestly, I’m just so excited to see them both on my screen again that I’d be thrilled to just watch them talk about geoduck for hours. (Please don’t actually let them talk about geoduck for hours!)
Kelly Townsend: We already know this is going to be a huge season for Waverly, so I’m very curious on how that will affect their relationship. Now that they’re out, will their dynamic have a major shift? What will Nicole do if Waverly goes dark? Really, I’m just excited to see them grow together, because their love story was a major highlight of Season 1.
Bridget Liszewski: While we’d all like them to continue happily along, this is television, and especially in Purgatory, happiness doesn’t last too long. I’m intrigued to see how they react and grow their relationship once they have some hurdles thrown in their way.

Season 1 character you want more of
Bridget Liszewski: There was a reason the writers just left the Stone Witch out in the salt and didn’t kill her. That witch may be down, but she’s certainly not out. I’d love to get a little check in on Constance Clootie at some point. Also, Kate Drummond is pretty great as Agent Lucado and I’m hoping we get to learn more about Dolls’ boss and why she seems to hate him so much.
Victoria Nelli: Give me a Nicole backstory this season or give me death. She’s the coolest and I want to hear more about her family and her past. I think we can all agree that Katherine Barrell is the best, so more of her on our screens would definitely be something that would make everyone happy.
Kelly Townsend: To be honest, I’m way more looking forward to meeting some of the new characters that were developed for Season 2. Now that our main cast is established, there’s nothing more fun than seeing new people shake things up.
Megan Haas: My very obvious answer is that I’d like to see Nicole Haught’s background. We already saw tidbits from the rest of the side characters — besides Nicole. Why is she in this town out of all towns? She didn’t grow up here. How did she become a cop? No one is “just a cop” in Wynonna Earp.

Non romantic relationship you want explored
Victoria Nelli: I really love Waverly and Doc interacting. I’m not sure why but I just adore them both individually so when they’re together in a scene it makes my heart so happy! More of that this season would be amazing!
Kelly Townsend: So many to choose from. While my head says Dolls and Nicole, because I would love to learn more about Nicole outside of her relationship with Waverly, my heart says Waverly and Doc. They had a really sweet dynamic and I’d love to see more of it.
Megan Haas: Doc and Dolls friendship. 100%. I don’t care if it’s fighting revenants or spending an entire episode playing scrabble. I’d love to see more of them together.
Bridget Liszewski: I’m a total sucker for those Earp sisters. While the great thing about Wynonna is that you can pair up any two characters and there’s going to be magic, there’s just nothing that beats Melanie Scrofano and Dominique Provost-Chalkley sitting together, talking about revenants and doing some sisterly bonding. I will take any and all Earp sister moments the show is willing to give me!

Wynonna Earp Season 2 premieres Friday, June 9 at 10 p.m. ET on Syfy and Space Channel.
“CLIFFHANGER YOU MOST WANT TO SEE ANSWERED” – great choice picking Waverly because that moment definitely left me going “Wait, what happened?!”!
“I know that seems like I’m taking the easy way out to this question, but it’s the truth. I’m just thrilled to have the show back on my screen.” – fair Bridget; I’m kind of with Megan though in that my most thing is WayHaught but to be fair more specifically Nicole and what we’ll learn about her as she’s still very mysterious. Wynonna having to make tough choices (such as to shoot Shorty or not to stop the Revenant) would follow quickly behind as those were great character moments and Melanie killed it; rewatchs have definitely shown her lead status skills.
“SEASON 2 HOPES FOR WAYHAUGHT” – I like the choices here.
“SEASON 1 CHARACTER YOU WANT MORE OF” – I’m with Victoria and Megan on this one – bring on more Nicole!
“NON ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP YOU WANT EXPLORED” – I’m going to cheat and pick more than one as I love seeing the characters mix because you never know what you’ll get; Nicole-Dolls is a fun duo for their seriousness amongst the humor that is Wynonna, she definitely needs two to reign her in at times…it’s a great battle of who will win each time. These two have a professional connection as well that helps them bond where they might not with other characters; Dolls being the original WayHaught cheerleader was just adorable as well.
Wynonna-Nicole – it’s like Dolls-Wynonna but less sexual tension so Wynonna can’t trick Nicole as easily into looking other ways. I can only imagine these two in humor mood would bring down the house; as Kelly said Nicole needs time away from Waverly so why not put her with everyone else at least once but some more than once.
Doc-Nicole – I believe this is literally the only duo who didn’t get time together, beyond a quick ticket passing, so it would be great to see what their relationship might be like!
How does Gus feel about Nicole, Doc, and Dolls? Let’s see her with them as well as the sisters.
As Bridget said the Earp sisters always makes for some good moments…again just all the non romantic pairings because keeping characters to just a select other can make them stagnate and some scene actions predictable.
