#EarpSoon has now officially become #EarpNow. After an extended hiatus and fight for the its survival, production is about to officially begin in Calgary on Season 4 of SYFY and CTV Sci-Fi’s Wynonna Earp. As is customary for this show, social media buzz grew on Monday afternoon as the first read-through of the season took place. Stars Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon, Dominique Provost-Chalkley, Kat Barrell, and Greg Lawson were all present and accounted for.
Season 4 will no doubt pick up in a very precarious state, given that the Season 3 finale saw the Earp Curse finally broken, albeit at a huge cost to Wynonna (Scrofano). Everyone in town, except for she and Nedley (Lawson), had gone missing, with Waverly (Provost-Chalkley) and Doc (Rozon) entering the mysterious Garden after defeating Bulshar. An ominous message, “VALDEZ,” was also scratched into a wall at the Earp Homestead, and who or what that signifies will be revealed in the upcoming season.
While spoilers and news of what’s to come is often hard to come by for Wynonna Earp fans, there’s already been some information released prior to Season 4. First came the news that star Scrofano would be stepping behind the scenes for the first time to direct an episode this season, and now we have our first insights into new additions to the cast. Uncharacteristically of the show, we have seen several actors take to Twitter to announce that they would be joining Wynonna Earp in Season 4.
Andrew Phung, who currently stars as Kimchee on CBC’s acclaimed comedy series Kim’s Convenience, tweeted his excitement over joining the Wynonna Earp family on Tuesday morning. Joining Phung in making announcements was Ty Olssen, tweeting Monday night that he was excited to start filming this week. The Halifax native can currently be seen on the CBC drama Fortunate Son, which is also produced by the same production company as Wynonna, Seven24 Films. He is also known for roles on Supernatural and The 100.
While no more information is known at the moment on Phung or Olssen’s Wynonna characters, the third casting announcement offered at least a name. Newcomer Martina Ortiz-Luis tweeted that she will be heading to Calgary to play a character named Rachel. Despite not knowing much about each of these new characters, Earpers have already began responding with their “#NoChill” and have been welcoming the actors to the Earper family.
Hi Twitter, I’m currently filming in Calgary and I’M SO EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE that I’ll be joining the cast of @WynonnaEarp, as new chick, “Rachel” this upcoming season!!! ? EXCITEMENTTT!!! #CrazyTimes#EarpNow#WynonnaEarp
