Well Hearties our wait has finally come to an end. OK, sort of. After an eight month hiatus, When Calls The Heart returned with an extra special Christmas movie that served as a bit of a sneak peek for what’s to come in Season 4, premiering February 19, 2017 on The Hallmark Channel. In true When Calls The Heart Christmas fashion, we were gifted with a little laughter, a little romance, a little magic and a little of life’s lessons.
Now we can’t deny that the cheese levels were stepped a bit above When Calls The Heart’s normal levels, but really what’s a good Hallmark movie without a little cheese? Plus, we have to admit that we loved every second of it. Jack and Elizabeth were as happy as ever, Rosemary and Lee returned from their honeymoon and gave us a glimpse into just how much fun married life is going to be for them, we got to meet some of the new kids in Miss Thatcher’s class, Gowan continued to be the town’s sour puss and a few new friendships started to form. We don’t know about the rest of you Hearties out there, but after seeing this movie we’re more excited than ever about what’s to come in Season 4.
Sticking with the show’s theme of love and happiness, here are a few of our favorite things from the Christmas special:
I never could figure out how to be the teacher’s pet……Until now ❤️
Jack and Elizabeth are so happy it almost hurts to watch them. The looks on their faces when they see each other and the way they talk about each other is so sweet. Now we’re the cheesy ones, but that proposal fake out was priceless. We know every single one of you was squealing in your chair watching it, don’t lie. And how perfect was that impromptu dance lesson turned make out session? Jack’s smolder just about did me in! I’m not kidding, I had to take a moment. Was anyone else a little confused to see Jack hanging his Christmas ornaments on Elizabeth’s tree? I know he asked if it was OK but come on, JUST GET MARRIED ALREADY! We’re not the only ones that were a little disappointed that there was no proposal this week. We can’t help but wonder if they are going to hold out until the end of the season now.
With that all said and done, we can’t help but worry a little about these two. Could things be too perfect? Could trouble be coming? We guess we will just have to wait and see…
“All I want is to make it the best Christmas for you” – Jack (cue Hearties swoon)
Surprised and Delighted
Oh Rosemary. We really are amazed as to how quickly we’ve gone from hating this character (admit it, she drove you nuts too) to absolutely loving everything about her. We loved how crazy she went with her Christmas decorations, we really couldn’t imagine her doing anything less, and we loved watching her fuss over Lee. They are just so cute together. Rosemary’s backhanded compliments to Elizabeth are priceless and she’s getting better and better at them. Heck, she’s even managing to do them through Dottie now. That was impressive.
Now we’re sorry if you liked it, but that spider broach Lee bought for Rosemary was horrible. Who would ever wear that? It was so bad that we can almost justify Rosemary’s reaction when she found it, almost. And could you imagine if Jack actually tried to pin it to Elizabeth’s dress like he told Florence he was planning to do? She would have a meltdown.
While it’s going to take us a while before we can think of her as Mrs. Coulter instead of Ms. Leveaux, we cannot get over how great she and Lee are together. It takes a very special man to put up with Rosemary’s well everything, and Lee is obviously a VERY special man. We don’t know how he gets through the day without strangling her. These two are going to make a perfect example of how couples don’t get boring after they get married. Who are we kidding, Rosemary will never be boring. We can’t wait to see what kind of antics she manages to come up with, especially now that she’s living next door to Elizabeth.
Rosemary: “My dear Elizabeth, the walls of the row houses are paper thin and your squeaky voice cuts through them like a knife.”
We never had any doubt that Gowan would be back. He really is a huge part of the show and it just wouldn’t be the same without him. We’ve often wondered why he’s remained in Hope Valley for as long as he has. What exactly is it that’s keeping him there? He has no family, no real friends, and now he doesn’t even have a job, but you know, we think Abigail nailed it on the head when she said, “you came back to Hope Valley because this is your home and the people here are your family”. He doesn’t have anyone else so really, where else would he go?
We loved how persistent Abigail was with him. She really is the rock that holds that town together and we hope that she got through to him. It’ll be interesting watching them work together as mayor. There’s no way he’s going to sit back and let her do everything, and we can’t wait to see them go head to head every week. Maybe we’ll even get to see him turn over a new leaf and become a whole new man, maybe not. We have a feeling that as soon as he’s cleared of all his wrong doing (you know he’ll find a way to weasel out of it somehow) that he will push Abigail out of the way and go right back to being his grumpy old self.
Friendship Over Shepherd’s Pie?
We have always been a fan of Faith. Really she has never acted any differently than any other woman would towards Jack. She’s never made a move on him and we just can’t see her ever trying. She is a great addition to the town and we really hope that we get to see her character grow this season. We love seeing a budding friendship between her and Elizabeth and how great is it that it started over Shepherd’s pie? We think if Elizabeth can get over her jealousy, and Faith can keep her eyes off of Jack, that these two could be great friends–as long as Faith doesn’t bring lard to their next cooking session things should move along quite smoothly.
Bring On The Apron
When Bill bought Gowan’s half of Abigail’s cafe we admit we were concerned. We’ve found him a little hard to trust since that whole counterfeiting thing and didn’t know if he had an ulterior motive–he does have a history with Abigail after all. Plus, we love Abigail and Frank together and didn’t want him to come between them. But after this episode we aren’t concerned at all. Bill seems to be softening up a bit and we think he is going to become a great business partner and friend to Abigail. We were a little surprised as to how easily Abigail was able to step away from the cafe, it’s like her baby, but it was nice to see her trusting Bill with it. It’ll be fun to watch him trying to handle the cafe while Abigail tackles being mayor, especially if more people complain about his eggs. Things are definitely going to be interesting at Abigail’s Cafe this season.
How gorgeous was Elizabeth’s dress at the Mountie’s Ball? Sure, it wasn’t exactly 1913 appropriate but who cares? They are living in their own Hallmark version of 1913 and that dress was amazing. And let’s be real here, no one in Hope Valley has a smaller waist than Elizabeth. Rosemary was crazy in thinking that her dress needed to be taken out.
Who knew things would get so hot so quickly between Abigail and Frank? They almost had to raise the rating of the show from G to PG for that kiss in the kitchen. Wowza!
How cute are the kids on this show? How they don’t just squish little Opal every time she speaks… And Emily’s singing, amazing. We don’t know how they did it but they have definitely managed to find the most talented child actors on the planet for this show.
We loved Jesse becoming one of the boys this week. We weren’t sure if I could trust him last season but he seems to be fitting right in now. Hopefully we will get to see more develop between him and Clara this season.
