Season 3 of When Calls The Heart showed things were going pretty well for the people of Hope Valley. Jack (Daniel Lissing) and Elizabeth (Erin Krakow) recovered from Charles’ rogue marriage proposal, and decided to go slow and take their time developing their relationship. They have found their place in the town and have grown into a great team. Watching them in the Christmas movie you could really see how happy they made each other, and we think it’s pretty safe to say that these two are going to be together for the long haul.

Elsewhere, Season 3 was a little rocky for Abigail (Lori Loughlin), but she too came out pretty well in the end. The mine disaster left her without a husband, son or much purpose to her life, but even with those challenges she still managed to be the rock that held the town together. With the addition of Cody (Carter Ryan Evancic) and Frank (Mark Humphrey) into her life, Abigail has been given the opportunity to start over and she is running with it. This season, which premieres Sunday, February 19 at 9 p.m. on the Hallmark Channel, it looks like we are going to see her team up with Gowan (Martin Cummins) in the role of Mayor of Hope Valley, and we can’t wait to see the drama that will surely cause.

At December’s Hearties Family Reunion, The TV Junkies had the chance to talk with Lissing, Krawkow and Loughlin. While they were pretty tight lipped on what’s to come in Season 4 they did give us a few little tidbits. Read on to see what they had to say about living up to the roles that they play and what to expect in Season 4.

TTVJ: One thing that we love about When Calls The Heart is how they’ve managed to portray the female role model. Other shows seem to think it’s important to have these tough, badass, troubled souls as their role models, but Elizabeth and Abigail are smart, kind, happy and so positive all the time. What’s it like playing that type of a character?

Erin Krakow: It’s really nice. The writing we’re given is such a gift. It really honors strong, smart, independent women. I mean look, you’re talking about a town where they’ve had this great big tragedy, where they lost all their husbands and fathers and the women have really had to learn how to fend for themselves in a lot of ways. So you are seeing just how strong women can be. It’s an honor to get to play a role like that.

Lori Loughlin: I love Abigail and Elizabeth’s relationship and I think it’s a really grounding force for our show. I really do. Because I think while it’s important to have a romantic relationship, I also think your friendships, especially for women, those female friendships can be very grounding and important and help get you through a lot.

TTVJ: And Abigail is kind of the rock that holds everything together in Hope Valley.

Daniel Lissing: Yes, she really is.

EK: Oh, absolutely.

LL: Yeah, and I really like that about her.

TTVJ: Do you guys ever feel any pressure living up to your characters on the show? They are all such amazing people?

EK: Well what’s interesting is we’re all actors and have sort of gravitated to this type of programming. I don’t know what kind of roles are in my future, Dan doesn’t know what kind of roles are in his and they’ll probably be different from these roles. So we really just hope that the fans stick with us as we work on other projects.

LL: It’s a lot of pressure for me because I can’t bake like Abigail can.

DL: I don’t know. There’s no pressure because the writing is there. You know we all connect so well on set, we’ve all been working together for so long that it’s just really enjoyment more than pressure.

TTVJ: Yeah you guys don’t look like you have any fun at all on set.

LL: Yeah we really don’t like each other at all. It’s really hard to get through the day with each other, its really difficult. [laughs]

TTVJ: So what’s coming up for Jack and Elizabeth this season? Things were going pretty well for them is Season 3, are they going to continue on with that momentum or are we going to see some new conflicts for the two of them?

EK: Yes, they are definitely continuing on that this season. Things are going very well for Jack and Elizabeth.

DL: I would say that they are closer this season than they have ever been before. They really sort of hit their stride and their relationship really starts to move forward. They’re a real team this season. And then there are a few things outside of their relationship that are going to cause some conflict, which is good drama right? There’s a lot going on this season.

TTVJ: OK I have to ask, is Jack ever going to pop the question?

DL: I don’t know.

EK: I hope so, stay tuned

LL: Hey, we can’t answer that.

TTVJ: And how about Abigail? What are we going to see with her this season?

LL: I have a really good season this year. Abigail has some great storylines this season and I like it because, well I like playing a woman that is in charge of her own destiny and is in a sort of a power position. Abigail takes on a bit of a new role of power this season so you’ll have to tune in and see what happens there. And yes, her relationship with Frank is going to continue to develop, but they focused on some other things for me too which I liked. So you’ll have to watch, tune in and see what that is. And of course there’s still more with Cody and her own career in the café. I thought it was a pretty good balance for Abigail this season.
