Killjoys: Looking Ahead to Season 4

Killjoys is back in action. Almost, anyway. The sexy space drama returns for its penultimate season on July 20 at 10 p.m. on Syfy and Space to deliver a much-needed dose of sci-fi fun to the summer.

When we last left Team Awesome Force, it was all-out war between the RAC and the Hullen, with neither side backing down. At least until Dutch kickstarted Aneela’s memories of her. Realizing she needed Dutch to defeat the Quad’s real enemy, the Lady, the two forged an alliance. Together, they descended into the Green and reunited with Khlyen. As for the rest of the team? They’re all still pretty much in mortal danger.

As we wait anxiously for the Season 4 premiere we thought we’d share some of our hopes–and fears–for what’s to come.

Which Season 3 cliffhanger are you most looking forward to seeing resolved?

Bridget Liszewski: Who is the Lady? I so love how we went into last season thinking Aneela was going to be the biggest enemy Dutch and the boys had to face, only to learn that there’s someone much more powerful and dangerous out there. I’m very interested to see who she is and just what kind of problems she’s going to cause.

Kelly Townsend: I’m looking forward to discovering more about the Lady during Season 4, but even more pressing: how the Jaqobis brothers will fare floating endlessly in space with a very pregnant Delle Seyah. She might not hold a grudge against Johnny for trying to kill her, but that doesn’t mean all that bad history has been resolved. Killjoys is always great at delivering surprises, so I can’t wait to see what’s in store for these three.

Henry A. Otero: For starters, I am incredibly curious to meet the Lady. I want to understand her connection to Aneela, Dutch and Khlyen. I am also dying to learn more about Delle Seyah’s pregnancy. Will the Lady be reborn and escape the green as the baby? Huh?!?

Which character are you most excited to see this season and what do you hope for their storyline?

Henry: The highlight of Season 3 for me was watching Hannah John-Kamen act against herself. I loved the subtle differences between Aneela and Dutch. That Aneela voice, brilliant! Really looking forward to more of those “Orphan Black” moments this season.

Bridget: While I’m completely a Johnny Jaqobis-type gal, I think Delle Seyah is so wickedly delicious. While I will never forget what she did to Pawter, I think she’s just so much fun and I am completely here for her twisted, but loving relationship with Aneela. With her carrying D’avin’s “child,” I know that’s going to make for some hilariously uncomfortable co-parenting situations that I can’t wait to see.

Kelly: Killjoys has such a wide tapestry of characters that weave its intricate story together, it’s hard to pick just one to be excited for. Still, I’m endlessly curious about what Aneela will be bringing to the table this season in the fight against the Lady. Will we be able to trust her? That uneasy alliance is sure to bring some fantastic tension for the characters and us viewers.

What are your expectations for D’Avin and Delle Seyah’s co-parenting skills?

Kelly: Compromise is a big part of parenting, and it’s hard to imagine either of those two navigating that very easily, especially Delle Seyah. Still, considering D’avin’s difficult past with his father, I believe the last thing he’ll want is to have history repeat itself. So, while there will be plenty of difficulties, chances are they’ll make it work for the sake of the little one.

Henry: Zero expectations, to be honest. Those two will never get along long enough to co-parent. Besides, at the rate the child is growing, it’s not going to be tiny for long.

Bridget: Delle Seyah just really loves to mess with people, right? It’s one of her more endearing qualities and I find it endlessly amusing. I have no doubt she’ll use her offspring with D’avin to be a complete pain in the ass to D’avin and everyone else whenever possible. We also know D’av never had a great relationship with his own father, so I’m curious to see what kind of father he’ll end up being.

With Aneela joining the fight against the Lady, what are your hopes for her relationship with Dutch?

Bridget: Talk about a weird relationship! I guess they are what? Sisters? In any case, seeing Aneela and Dutch try to work together and build some sort of relationship is going to be super interesting! One of the main reasons I’m looking forward to seeing these two characters interact is because they are both played brilliantly by Hannah John-Kamen and any time we get more of her is great in my book.

Kelly: It’s always fascinating to see Hannah John-Kamen play Dutch and Aneela because she portrays them so differently, with so much subtlety. As a viewer I can’t wait to see what kind of nuance she’ll bring to their relationship now that they’re working together. Of course, I don’t want Aneela to lose any of her devilish edge, but the idea that her and Dutch can become a new kind of family is incredibly promising.

Henry: We’ve seen the two at odds, so it’s going to be fun to see them finally working together. Aneela once cared deeply for Dutch, so it’s going to be fascinating to see the two bonding. I’m sure there will be an insane twist, but I hope they establish a friendship.

What couple are you rooting for this season?

Henry: Pree and Gared are just adorable. Their wedding was a terrific moment last year. I hope that relationship is explored more in the new season… more singing from Thom Allison, too. Please and thank you.

Bridget: The Green Queens! As I said, Delle Seyah and Aneela’s love may not be perfect, but it’s so interesting to see the effect Delle Seyah has on Aneela. I do think she truly cares for Delle Seyah, and while they may enjoy torturing people a little too much, I find them so entertaining to watch!

Kelly: Pree and Gared were the pairing I never knew I wanted in Season 3. Who could have predicted stabbing someone in the hand could result in one of the most adorable love stories of the series? I am more than ready to see these two negotiate married life while fighting a war against the Hullen.

Any platonic relationships you’d like to see further explored?

Kelly: Who doesn’t love a classic science nerd rivalry? Zeph and Johnny were like oil and water when they first met last season, but they slowly learned to respect each other by the end. I’m ready to see those two working even closer together this season–with the signature snark still intact, of course.

Henry: Definitely Dutch and Johnny in the pre-Killjoys days. I want more flashbacks of their early relationship, so we can witness those moments that created their strong platonic bond. They’re my favorite relationship on the show.

Bridget: I’m always here for Killjoys‘ beating heart, the relationship between Dutch and Johnny. The way Killjoys continues to buck every trend out there and defy every trope by keeping this relationship platonic is a thing of beauty. I have a feeling that Dutch is going to need Johnny more than ever to make it through everything with the Lady and working with Aneela, but I have no doubt he’ll be there for her every step of the way. Thank you Killjoys team for one of TV’s best and most unique relationships.

Which character are you most afraid of dying this season?

Bridget: Pree! It seems like every season we lose one of our most beloved characters — Pawter and then Alvis — and I don’t want to lose my most favorite bar owner/warlord! But Michelle Lovretta, Adam Barken and Co. seem to take joy in being able to rip our hearts out now and then so there’s always fear in the back of my mind with this show. Hopefully they’ll leave Pree be, after all, he’s just gotten married and needs to enjoy being a newlywed with Gared.

Kelly: I can’t believe I’m saying this, but… Delle Seyah. I’m still not over Pawter’s death, but Delle Seyah’s relationship with Aneela was a compelling part of Season 3, and I found her growing on me more and more. My sadness over Khlyen’s death in Season 2 took me by surprise, and if Delle Seyah meets her maker this season I may be shedding tears for her as well.

Henry: I hated losing Pawter, Khlyen and Alvis. It totally sucks when any of the supporting players are killed off. However, if anything happens to Pree, I will riot. Fancy’s got to stick around too. I have a bad feeling Zeph might not survive Season 4.
