CTV, in association with Project 10 Productions and Seven24 Films, announced on Tuesday that production has begun on Season 2 of the Canadian comedy series JANN. Filmed in Calgary, Season 2 of the hit series will be expanded to include eight, half-hour episodes, up two from the six-episode first season which was the most-watched Canadian comedy of the 2018-19 broadcast year. Starring multi-platinum award-winning Canadian singer, songwriter, broadcaster, and author Jann Arden as a fictionalized version of herself, Season 2 of JANN joins CTV’s mid-season schedule in early 2020.
Joining Arden in Season 2 will be guest stars Sarah McLachlan, as the singer-songwriter plays herself, as well as Elisha Cuthbert (Happy Endings, 24) as school board parent Liz, and Keshia Chanté as up and coming singer Nia Taylor. “Most days I have to pinch myself as this series has been such a wonderful surprise in my life,” said Arden. “I work with incredibly gifted and creative people and we promise to bring more laughs and gut-wrenching moments this season than we did in our first season. Everyone is so excited to be filming and to get this party started!”
In Season 2, Jann’s (Arden) hilarious and self-deprecating, attention-drawing antics continue, as the series picks up immediately following last season’s cliffhanger finale. Viewers were left wondering whether Jann would embark on a tour or stay behind to help her mother Nora (Deborah Grover), who’s showing early signs of memory loss, and sister Max (Zoie Palmer), who was put on bed rest for the remainder of her pregnancy.
This season, Jann’s idea of thoughtfulness may be a little over the top, as she sets out to win over her family and ex-girlfriend Cynthia (Sharon Taylor) – all while still attempting to regain her long-lost fame. Meanwhile, tensions rise with Jann and her new manager Cale (Elena Juatco), who lines up new music gigs that are outside of Jann’s comfort zone. Hilarity ensues throughout the season, as Jann also faces a number of musical rivals.
Returning cast starring alongside Arden inJANN are Zoie Palmer (Pure, Dark Matter) as Jann’s sister Max; Deborah Grover (Anne with an “E”) as Jann’s mom Nora; Patrick Gilmore (Travelers; You, Me, Her) as Jann’s brother-in-law Dave; Elena Juatco (Dark Cargo, Schitt’s Creek) as Jann’s manager Cale; Jason Blicker (F/X: The Series, State of Grace) as Jann’s former manager Todd; Sharon Taylor (Bad Blood) as Jann’s ex-girlfriend Cynthia; Alexa Rose Steele (Degrassi: The Next Generation) as Jann’s eldest niece Charley; Ceilidh MacDonald as Jann’s niece Sam; and Keaira Pliva (Tin Star) as Jann’s niece Frankie.
Set and filmed in Calgary, JANN was co-developed by Bell Media and Project 10 Productions and is produced in association with Project 10 Productions and SEVEN24 Films.
