Jane the Virgin: Why we’re so excited for Season 3
|
Telenovelas are known for being drama-filled, intense and over the top. While The CW hit Jane the Virgin does accomplish infinite dramatic elements throughout its hour long episodes, it also brings another element than few shows master–immense amount of heart. Even as the show gets ready to return on Monday night, with Michael’s life hanging in the balance, we can’t help but feel anything but joy over its return. Jane The Virgin is one of the most beloved shows on television, and for good reason! Let’s take a minute to review what it is about Jane that has not only Michael and Rafael, but viewers as well, falling head over heels in love with this show.

It is impossible to watch an episode of JTV without having pastel blues, purples, and yellows flood your screen. Visually, the Jennie Snyder Urman-developed show is stunning. It’s filled with cheery, and inviting color pallets that make it impossible not to feel calm and collected while watching it. The Marbella hotel is a staple location on the series and is one of the most alluring sets on the show, so much so that you almost forget all of the horrible things that constantly go on there.

While the show is beautiful to watch and drama/ comedy filled, nothing compares to the show’s wonderful and powerful cast. Gina Rodriguez shines like no other leading actress on primetime. She brings such warmth and compassion to the role, something surprisingly rare on television. Jane’s mother, Xiomara (Andrea Navedo) and grandmother, Alba (Ivonne Coll), are her voices of reason, offering love, wisdom, and advice. They are at the center of just about every scene that makes us feel warm and fuzzy inside. Without them Jane would fall apart, and frankly, so would we! Jane’s father, Rogelio (Jaime Camil) is by far the biggest source of humor and comedic relief on Jane. He loves Jane so much and that comes through in everything he does.
When it comes to Jane’s boys, Michael (Brett Dier) and Rafael (Justin Baldoni), wow! Those two kill it daily on the show. Whether it’s fighting over Jane, trying to find baby Mateo, or overall just being pretty fantastic guys. Personally, I lean more towards Team Michael, but Rafael has grown a lot since the show’s first season. One thing is for sure, both of these men will do anything in their power to make sure Jane is happy.

The series has changed and grown so much since it premiered two years ago. It’s turned into a fully fledged comedy/drama filled machine and shows no signs of slowing down. Jane The Virgin is such a joy to watch and such a nice escape from everyday life. It brightens our lives and it genuinely is one of the most special and unique shows on television right now. Even if we tried, there’s no way we could stop from tuning in on Monday night!

Jane The Virgin airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on the CW.
Team Michael! I figure they’ll draw out his situation and he’ll wake up in a season or midseason finale for drama. I hope we’ll get more Rose and Luisa this season also!
I have to say I’m surprised they had Michael recover so quickly, I thought they’d slow play it for drama. A good return.
I actually dropped this show after a handful of episodes, then, after it won all those awards, I decided to give it another shot and I am glad I did because now I really like it. What won me over was the breastfeeding episode because it was the first time I really found a realistic television portrayal of motherhood. I find that too often on TV a baby is just a plot device, used sporadically in a TV show when it’s convenient in the story with the kids often off screen taking a nap or something or not even mentioned for half a season. Look at Grey’s Anatomy. Meredith has 3 kids yet we rarely hear about them and Meredith seems to come and go from home with ease and stay at the hospital for hours, all the while being a single parent. If this was real life, she wouldn’t be able to put in the surgical and social hours she does. What about that dinner party Maggie had? Where were the kids?
Not to mention when is the last time we saw Arizona with Sofia really? That daycare is definitely 24 hours.
