Before THE Gilmore Girls reunion happened at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, TX this weekend there was another, smaller reunion that took place. The fictional Gilmore Girls band Hep Alien, comprised of stars Keiko Agena (Lane), Todd Lowe (Zack) and John Cabrera (Brian), surprised guests at a secret show at the San Jose Hotel on Friday night. The reunion featured a brief set of covers for fans on hand for a screening of the Friday Night Lights episode “Mud Bowl.”
The FNL tailgate is an annual tradition at the festival, but this year the Hep Alien performance was an added bonus. The crowd received a pleasant surprise when the festival tweeted out that something big related to Gilmore Girls was about to go down. That’s when the cast members appeared in character, to play their take on songs such as “Single Ladies,” and of course a rendition of the Gilmore Girls’ theme song, “Where You Lead” by Carole King.
The group has kept in touch over the years and even had another reunion last October when they staged a one-night only show. Missing from this performance were fellow band members Sebastian Bach (Gil) and Adam Brody (Dave Rygalski), though the band saluted them both during the set.
The cast was in town for the Gilmore Girls reunion panel at ATX that will take place Saturday night. There will be 19 members of the cast and crew, including creator Amy Sherman-Palladino and stars Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel.
The ATX Festival is taking place in Austin, TX from June 4-7, 2015.
