Let’s get the fire going and grab your cup of eggnog because The Fosters are back and ready to celebrate Christmas. The show returns as part of ABC Family’s annual “25 Days of Christmas” with the aptly titled “Christmas Past,” and sees Callie and Jude preparing for their first Christmas as members of the Fosters’ family.
“The Christmas episode is going to be full of holiday cheer, obviously, but at the same time there’s still some family drama that comes into the picture,” says Hayden Byerly, youngest Foster Jude.
That drama may stem directly from the fact that Jude is now officially a Foster, but big sis Callie can’t say the same. Her plans were derailed when her biological father, Robert Quinn, went back on his word and decided to fight Stef and Lena by not signing the abandonment papers in the summer finale. Unfortunately for these siblings, they’ve “been there and done that” when it comes to Callie’s adoption issues.
“Jude has experienced this once, where he’s been adopted and she hasn’t, and now hearing the news that Robert decided to fight for Callie, I think that Jude will be very upset and sad. But it’s unclear how he will react,” Byerly tells The TV Junkies. Previously, that reaction wasn’t a good one. We all remember earlier in Season 2 when Jude was silent for a few episodes. Let’s hope this second round of adoption issues doesn’t send Jude into a silent tailspin once again.
There is one emotion we couldn’t blame Jude for feeling, and that is guilt. Who would blame the poor guy for feeling guilt-ridden over being adopted, when his big sister still has so many obstacles to overcome before she can do the same? This guilt may lead to some odd behaviour from the littlest Foster as “we really see a different side of Jude in the Christmas episode, which is kind of interesting,” teases Byerly.
Just what could this different side be? Your guess is as good as ours, but we’re afraid it’s not necessarily a good thing, especially given that Byerly warns us that “a lot of people, I’m sure, will be shaking their fingers at Jude in anger.”
Anger? Towards Jude? We couldn’t possibly feel anger towards Jude … could we? Jude is, after all, one of the show’s favourites, and we don’t know about you, but usually we want nothing more than to hug the little guy and show him how much he’s loved. That’s why we’re feeling nervous as we head into some uncharted territory as Byerly teases that “it’s kind of one of those things where it’s a shocker. It’s definitely a moment where you’re like ‘Jude, why would you do such a thing?’”
Any thoughts as to what Jude may do? You’re guess is as good as ours, but we want to hear your theories in the comments below. Meanwhile, we better go prepare ourselves for this new side, and to spend the holidays with The Fosters. Be sure to check out this preview of Monday’s holiday episode:
