Well, the Faking It Season 3 trailer is officially here! Go ahead and take a look for yourself below, but with the series returning to MTV on March 15, it looks like we have a lot to look forward to.
When we last left Hester High, things were at a bit of a turning point. Sure, the school was saved and Liam (Gregg Sulkin) and Shane (Michael J. Willett) made up, but in the most pivotal change for the series, Amy (Rita Volk) and Karma (Katie Stevens) were about to spend their first summer apart. We also can’t forget that Karma drunkenly kissed Amy, forever changing the way Amy handled this friendship. It looks like things might not be getting back to the way they were after that party.
So with Karma and Amy about to take some time off from their friendship, and not per Amy’s request, things are about to switch up at Hester High. Here’s a few things we’re hoping to see happen from Faking It in Season 3:
Karma and Amy End Their Fight
While their time apart feels very natural for the series, we hope it doesn’t stay like this for long. Every famous friendship has their big fight and now it’s Karma and Amy’s turn. This break was needed after an eventful Season 2 and it thankfully fell together without feeling pushed by the writers. Amy needed her space over the summer in order to figure out if she can continue being BFF’s with Amy after that kiss:
Based on the trailer, it looks like she can. Amy returns wishing to be friends, but it doesn’t look like Karma is completely on board with that idea. While Amy can put summer behind her and move on, Karma seems to have made new friends. We hope this fight plays out, but not for too long. We need Karmy back! While it might not be in the terms that some fans were hoping for, a friendship is better than nothing.
Lauren Gets the Love She Deserves
While Lauren (Bailey De Young) might walk around with her head held high, we know that it doesn’t span across every aspect of her life. She took a big step trying to save Hester by coming out as intersex. The entire school knows, but as she said, Hester is the place to be different. We hope that she learns to embrace who she is because with Lauren at a 100% confident level, she’s indestructible.
Faking It has found a way to present the rocky side of high school in a realistic way, at the same time pairing it with the wild side of teenage life. While we may get an exaggerated look at some points, the series keeps true to itself by being edgy and funny while bringing in relevant conversations. Lauren deserves her happy ending and here’s hoping she begins that sooner rather than later.
Amy Stays Amy
Of course we all fell in love with the Amy we saw in Season 1. She was awkward and adorable and about to go on this wild journey. That Amy has had a role in both seasons, and although she is growing up and learning where her place is in the world, we hope that she stays true to herself. Amy and Karma both are going through issues that everyone goes through in high school. They are realizing things about themselves that they never saw coming. While Amy needed a summer to figure things out, Karma needed that summer to be with her best friend. Amy is in for a rocky start to the new school year, but we hope that the Amy we fell in love with is still there throughout it all.
Hester High Is Stronger Than Ever
This high school–while a dramatic mess at times–is showing that it is okay to have arts at the forefront. Where else are you going to find a school where drama club is made to be cooler than football? It’s not a secret that the arts are getting the back burner treatment in society. Seeing a series portray a school that prides itself on the arts and being who you are is something to be proud of as an audience. The students realized what they had when the school was almost shut down. Now in Season 3, let’s see school spirit at an all-time high.
The gang gets back together
It might have always been a bit dramatic, but the ensemble of this show is what makes it great. We can’t have everyone apart forever. It looks like Shane might have to split his time between Amy and Karma, which will no doubt make for some gif-worthy comments, but how long can this last? The show is at its best when all of the character dynamics flow easily. Of course they needed this break, but let’s hope it’s not for too long. We want to see Hester High at it’s best, which, of course, is when it’s a hot mess, but not when our characters are. We’re going to have the fights and the ups and downs, but let’s get back to what makes Faking It the series we love. A little break will be great if the timing is done right.
However, it’s going to be fun while we wait. From the trailer, we are getting an apron-clad Liam possibly cooking with Lauren. Shane and Karma seem to be taking on a friendship that involves a life-guarding adventure. Amy is kissing a blonde girl and someone dressed like Amelia Earhart, which we’re dying to see. Get ready to go on a wild ride in Season 3, but here’s to it ending with everyone realizing that they (almost always) work better together.
The Faking It premiere is right around the corner! What do you hope to see in Season 3! Sound off in the comments below!
