Hi Amber, I’m so happy Outlander is back (finally!). I see that it’s airing April 4 in the U.S., but when is it coming to Canada? – Alyssia
Amber: Don’t worry, you’ll see Jamie and Claire soon enough in Canada too, because Showcase is airing the series a day after Starz. The back half of Season 1 kicks off Sunday, April 5 at 10 p.m. ET, which is really a better time to watch the show anyhow, isn’t it? Who stays home and watches TV on a Saturday night. (*Slowly raises hand.)
You’ll definitely want to watch the first episode back, too. While much of what goes down has been reported (you can read more about that here), and the promo gave us plenty of salacious hints, the episode is pretty much off the wall. You can expect the back half of the season is going to have a little bit of a quicker pace than the first half, and there is a certain steamy sex scene that is intense. All I’ll say is make sure you have a tall glass of water handy.
Hey Amber, thanks for the column. I just read that Coach is coming back and I have mixed feelings. I liked the original show, but why can’t they leave it alone? – Ryan
Amber: Welcome to Fall 2015, where every show is either going to be a remake, be derived from a movie, or tout diversity as its main theme. Seriously, I agree with you. Craig T. Nelson was one of my favourite Bravermans on Parenthood, but I’m not ready to see him return to this sitcom. For those who haven’t heard, the continuation has already been ordered to a 13-episode series and will feature Nelson returning to the game when his son needs help coaching a new team. Sure, the premise kind of works but we’ve already done that.
I also don’t understand when networks rely on big names to propel new shows. It never works. Just ask Sean Hayes, Michael J. Fox, Michael Richards, Paul Reiser, Matt LeBlanc or Tracy Morgan. But, I guess that’s a conversation for another day. All I know is that I hope come May when we know for sure what’s been picked up to series for fall, that there are a few original programs among the bunch.
Amber, I JUST saw The Jinx finale. I know, I’m late to the party. Tell me though, will HBO do a follow-up special now that Robert Durst is back in jail? – Tiva
Amber: First of all, I’m so happy someone shares my addiction. The filmmakers did such a great job capturing everything. Secondly, I wouldn’t put it past them to do a follow up, but nothing has been confirmed just yet. Right now what will be interesting is to see how involved director Andrew Jarecki will be in the case against Durst. Reports and expert opinions seem to indicate he’ll have to take the stand. To me, that has sequel or follow-up special written all over it, don’t you think?
That’s all for this week. Have a TV question of your own? Email email@example.com and be sure to check back on Monday to see if your question has been answered.
