Have you had a sinking feeling in your stomach ever since the end of that Wynonna Earp Season 2 finale? Well, you’re not alone and any hopes that it may go away next season were quickly dashed when we got our first look at Season 3. In a new trailer that debuted during the SYFY/Space Channel supernatural drama’s panel at the ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas, fans of Wynonna Earp got their first glimpse of new footage. The panel, moderated by Mo Ryan, featured showrunner Emily Andras and cast members Melanie Scrofano, Tim Rozon and Katherine Barrell.
The new trailer lasted less than 90 seconds and was much more serious in tone, but we don’t think for a second that that there will be a shortage of quips come Season 3. Also, despite it not being very long, there was plenty of information and many hints were dropped about what’s to come. Blink and you’ll miss a lot of the goodies hidden in this trailer, but that’s exactly why we’ve went ahead and dissected as much of the information as we could for you. Find out what our big takeaways were about what’s to come in Season 3 below.
But first, let’s check out that trailer one last time because even though we’ve watched it several times already, we know we are still picking up new things:
Doc has Bulshar’s ring
At the end of the Season 2 finale, we saw Nicole (Katherine Barrell) sitting in her police cruiser looking at a file on the cult of Bulshar. She was also staring at Bulshar’s ring, the one that she had picked up when Mercedes (Dani Kind) died. However, it looks as though Doc (Tim Rozon) may come into possession of the ring at some point this season and he is using it to perform some kind of ritual. How did he get it from Nicole and what is he doing? Could he maybe be trying to get his immortality back after having to give it up last season?
Bobo is still around
While it’s clear that Bobo is still very much at the bottom of the well that Doc left him in Season 2, the fact that he makes an appearance at all in the trailer proves one of the most dangerous revenants, as well as Michael Eklund’s glorious performance, will be back to no doubt cause more trouble at some point for Wynonna in Season 3. Wynonna Earp has always done a great job of using Eklund’s Bobo in just the right amount, and we can’t wait to see how he factors into things this year.
Judging by what we see in the trailer, it looks as though Jeremy’s infatuation with Doc could be going to a whole new level in Season 3. There are multiple shots of Varun Saranga’s Jeremy sporting a very healthy looking mustache that may make even Doc Holliday jealous. Whether or not Jeremy grows the mustache to get closer to his hero remains to be seen, but judging by how many times it’s made us laugh already in the trailer alone, we can’t wait to see everyone’s reaction. Now we just need to know whether or not Saranga went the same route as his co-star Rozon and actually grew that beautiful mustache all on his own?
An old friend of Dolls?
We know that not only does Dolls have years of experience working for Black Badge, but he was also in the military. Could he be running into an old buddy from his military days in Season 3? There’s one moment in the trailer where it looks like he could be embracing an old friend, one that’s dressed in full combat gear. What’s happening there and does this mean we will learn more about Xavier’s past?
A Rookie Joins In?
OK, you caught us! We may have literally gone frame by frame when breaking down this trailer, but if we didn’t we would’ve blinked and totally missed the fact that Rookie Blue alum and current Burden of Truth star Peter Mooney is making a visit to Purgatory. Since we barely saw him, we really don’t have any information to go on about who he’s playing or how big of a role he’ll play in Season 3, but that hasn’t stopped us from being all kinds of excited! We do know though that Mooney is a talented actor and will no doubt be a great addition to the Wynonna Earp guest lineup in Season 3.
Mama Earp and Peacemaker
The Season 3 trailer delivers some of our first glimpses of Megan Follows as Mama Earp. While we don’t see her actually shoot the gun, Mama is even handling Peacemaker at one point. Now because she’s not firing, we can’t tell whether or not the gun works for her, or what color it glows, but it does make us wonder what we will learn when this does happen. There’s been a lot of fan theories about Peacemaker itself, but there’s also been speculation that Mama may have been the true Earp heir. It’ll definitely be interesting to see what happens when Peacemaker is wielded by Mama Earp herself.
Wynonna and her old ways
After a Season 2 that saw a pregnant Wynonna, it looks like our girl is back to her old hard partying and drinking ways in Season 3. With full on hairporn back in action, Wynonna appears to be riding a mechanical bull and drinking it up at one point. Does this mean we may travel to another Purgatory hotspot that rivals the beloved Pussy Willows from Season 2? Regardless, it looks like Wynonna may be back to her old ways this year.
WayHaught is still strong
With the way things ended for WayHaught in Season 2, there wasn’t much doubt in our minds that Purgatory’s best couple was in anything but a good place heading into Season 3. Judging by their kiss in the trailer it definitely seems that WayHaught is doing better than ever.
Plenty of romance to go around
Before we get ahead of ourselves though, WayHaught doesn’t appear to be the only couple with some romantic action happening in the trailer. Wynonna is kissing a mysterious person and then Doc is kissing Kate, played by new recurring cast member Chantel Riley. With Rosita (Tamara Duarte) nowhere to be seen in this trailer, could Doc’s dance card now get filled by Kate in Season 3?
More Wynonna/Haught Team Ups?
Over the past two seasons some of the best scenes happened between Wynonna and Nicole. Melanie Scrofano and Katherine Barrell have proven they have great chemistry together, from a relaxed heart to heart in a police station, to out on a drunken adventure at the local strip club. Viewers love seeing the interplay between these characters and if the trailer is to be believed, it looks like we’re in for more interactions between them in Season 3.
A new ally
As previously mentioned, the trailer gave us a first look at Riley’s Kate. While not much is known about her character, other than the fact that she’s in Purgatory as part of an intense manhunt, it would appear that she may be a new ally for Wynonna. Of course, this is Wynonna Earp so appearances can be deceiving, but at least upon first glance, Scrofano’s Wynonna and Riley’s Kate make a pretty badass looking team!
Waverly in danger
Could Waverly find herself in some serious danger this year? That appears to be the case in one part of the trailer where she’s being dragged away while a large blood trail follows in her wake. She’s screaming for Wynonna and we can only hope that big sis arrives in time to save her, for there’s never more hell to pay than when Waverly is the one in danger.
During the brief trailer, we get multiple looks at a mysterious new stranger that seems to have come to Purgatory. Could this be Bulshar? Is he someone else? While we don’t know the answers to that just yet, he doesn’t seem to be good news. We don’t know about you, but he’s already giving us plenty of chills just in the brief glimpses we got of him in the trailer. Also, is he giving anyone else strong Ed Harris’ Man in Black from Westworld vibes? The only thing certain is that July 20 needs to get here quick so we can start getting some answers!
Regardless of whether or not any of our takeaways here are right or not, we have a strong feeling that Doc is right.
