Wait a second… we already know how the story of Krypton ends, right? Kabooooooom!!!
Like most Superman fans, I wondered how in the world Syfy planned to bring us a “Superman” show without the Man of Steel himself. Seriously, 200 years before our favorite hero was even born? How interesting could Supe’s granddad possibly be? Well, hear me out.
What if I told you this particular TV series is a time-travel tale? That’s right, heroes (and villains) from our present go back in time to mess with Superman’s ancestors when the drama premieres on Syfy, Wednesday, March 21. If Seg-El were to die, then Superman would never exist… follow me? Yeah, the show became that much more interesting once the time-travel element was revealed at last year’s Comic-Con. Plus, David S. Goyer as Executive Producer (“Man of Steel,” “The Dark Knight Trilogy”), almost guarantees a television series with the look and feel we’ve come to expect from DC’s feature film division.

The official synopsis for Krypton reads: What if Superman never existed? Set two generations before the destruction of Superman’s home planet, “Krypton” follows Seg-El (Cameron Cuffe), the legendary Man of Steel’s grandfather, who is faced with a life and death conflict – save his home planet or let it be destroyed in order to restore the fate of his future grandson. With Krypton’s leadership in disarray and the House of El ostracized, Seg finds himself in a difficult position. He must redeem his family’s honor and protect the ones he loves while being challenged by familiar DC characters Brainiac (Blake Ritson) and Earthly time-traveler Adam Strange (Shaun Sipos).
What do you think? Doesn’t the time-travel premise actually sound worth tuning-in for? One thing’s for certain, this isn’t going to be your typical Superman show. Which is pretty exciting if you ask me. I’d love to hear your thoughts, hit me up in the comments below.
